Old Town Javea
Jávea's old town center has retained its medieval appearance to this day, a unique network of narrow streets with southern-style white facades and floral decorations, beautiful stone arches leading to surprising corners, Gothic windows, intricate ironwork in the balconies, and large wooden front doors. Jávea's historic center is located 1 km from the beach and has remained virtually unchanged over the years. You can still see remnants of piracy, and the town's raisin-producing past is also evident. The town's location has contributed significantly to this. Most tourists stay close to the coast and rarely venture into the town center. This has helped it maintain its authenticity, even today. All this makes strolling through the streets of Jávea a true pleasure. It's a journey through time, with beautiful details to admire. A stroll offers views of historic buildings, charming shops, and all sorts of art galleries. The town's atmosphere is especially convivial in the evenings, with restaurant tables in the narrow alleyways and squares surrounded by Jávea's historic setting. Throughout the town, you'll find various traditional tapas bars and shops.
Javea market
Every Thursday of the year, except public holidays, the weekly market takes place in Jávea's old town. It's a fairly large market with around 130 stalls offering a wide variety of products. It's a true Spanish market, where you can still bargain on prices. Opening hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Address: Plaza de la Constitución, next to the Institute and on the road to Calvary. Weekly schedule of weekly markets in the area: Monday: Callosa d'en Sarria, Dénia, Santa Pola. Tuesday: Alicante, Altea, Benidorm, Orihuela. Wednesday: Benidorm, Campello, Ondara, and Teulada. Thursday: Alicante, Jávea, and Villajoyosa. Friday: Alfaz del Pi, Dénia, Moraira, Gata, Torrevieja. Saturday: Alicante, Benissa, Jalón (antique market), and Calpe. Sunday: Teulada (antique market) and Valencia.
Port of Javea
The area around Jávea's port is known as Duanes de la Mar. It's one of the liveliest parts of Jávea year-round, with a constant coming and going of fishing boats. Of course, there's also a fish market (Lonja) here, which is definitely worth a visit. Fishing boats arrive from 3:00 PM, and the sale of the day's fresh fish and shellfish begins at 5:00 PM at Duanes de la Mar and lasts until 8:00 PM. Besides the fishing port, Duanes de la Mar also boasts a marina. The marina offers water sports such as fishing, diving, and boat rentals. A promenade with a pebble beach surrounds Jávea's port. Numerous fishermen's cottages are located nearby. The charming harbor area boasts various shops and numerous restaurants serving freshly caught fish for a delicious lunch or dinner. The beautiful beach near the harbor completes this vibrant area, offering something for everyone. The modern church “Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Loreto” (Church of Our Lady of Loreto) is located at Calle Pio X, 9, in the heart of the fishing district of Duanes de la Mar. This church with striking architecture is much appreciated by enthusiasts. It is an avant-garde church built in the mid-twentieth century. The invocation of the Virgin of Loreto focuses on the roots of history, as in the 15th century there was a hermitage dedicated to this virgin in Xàbia which was linked to fishermen.
Granadella
Granadella Beach is located just 5 kilometers from our house and offers a completely different kind of beach experience. This tranquil cove features crystal-clear turquoise water, a pebble beach (water shoes recommended), and is ideal for diving and snorkeling. Kayaks and paddleboards are also available for rent, allowing you to explore the coastline from the water. Playa Granadella is breathtakingly beautiful and has been awarded the Spanish title of “Best Beach in Spain” multiple times. This comes as no surprise, as the beach is set in a picturesque horseshoe-shaped bay with clear turquoise waters, surrounded by dramatic rocky cliffs and pine trees. It is truly a hidden gem. Granadella is also one of the many small and idyllic beaches found in and around Jávea. Within just a 4-kilometer radius of our house, you can discover several other charming coves, including Cala del Portitxol, Cala Blanca, and La Grava Beach—each offering its own unique atmosphere and beauty.
El Arenal
Arenal Beach is 7 kilometers from our house and is the most popular beach in Jávea because it’s truly sandy. During the mid and high season, the beach is lined with thatched parasols. The beach promenade is the heart of Jávea, and it’s lively year-round, especially on weekends. Here you’ll find a mix of delicious restaurants with sea views. In the evenings, the promenade hosts charming market stalls.
Parking is still free here, as is the case throughout Jávea. Only the parking garages charge a small fee. At Arenal Beach, you can also rent kayaks, subboards, boats, and jet skis (read more by clicking here ) at the Canal de la Fontana, which is located on your left at the very end of Arenal Beach when facing the sea.
Along the beautiful Arenal beach lies a lovely promenade, lined with restaurants such as La Bambula, Chabada, La Boheme, Carnaval, Bar BBQ Fuego, La Fontana, and many other tapas bars and shops. At the back of the Arenal, you’ll find some lovely boutiques. There are two nightclubs on the Arenal boulevard: Discoteca Socco Javea and Achill Bar & Dancefloor.
Behind Arenal Beach, across the street, is the taxi stand. You can take a taxi to Villa Mozart from there; the cost is about 15 euros, even in the middle of the night. If you need a taxi from our house, you can call Radio Taxi Javea at 96 579 32 24 or download the 1Taxi app at https://www.1taxi.es/ . Our children have been picked up from our villa several times by taxi; it works perfectly.
